This may directly or indrectly impact you…

Michigan could shut down all non-essential government positions on Monday…
– too many state employee positions to list
– state-licensed casino gaming in Detroit
– sale of lottery tickets
– distribution of packaged liquor
– state parks
– welcome centers
– the Secretary of State branch offices around the state

No staff probably means a closed park.

I'm hearing through the grapevine that fish hatcheries will not be staffed. This means LOTS of dead fish. Not sure how long it would take, but we'd probably lose our muskies if they are not fed.

The muskies are fine for a while because they're outside with minnows in the pond.

LeMay OUT

Are we talking the muskies or the legislators and governor? 8)

The muskies should have enough food to carry them for a few weeks. Normally by this time the last shot of fatheads are in the pond. They are due to be stocked in a few weeks.

A few weeks without my wifes paycheck could be a bummer!!!

I was asking about the muskies. But it sounds like maybe 2 to 4 weeks of shut down.

LANSING, Mich. (AP)

Lawmakers and Gov. Jennifer Granholm raced against the clock Thursday to try and avoid a partial government shutdown next week.

Granholm announced she would give a five-minute address at 6:05 p.m. Thursday to discuss the negotiations and what could happen if there's a government shutdown. The address will be made available to radio and television stations statewide.

"We think citizens deserve to hear from the governor," said her spokeswoman, Liz Boyd. Boyd added that negotiations continue, and said Granholm will adjust her remarks to reflect any progress by the time the show airs.

Republicans are pushing for a 30-day extension of the current budget structure to keep state services running without interruption when the new fiscal year starts Monday. Democrats, including Granholm, say they won't support a temporary extension unless a budget deal includes higher taxes to support public safety, education and health care.

Public safety in Detroit, socialized Healthcare in Detroit, Education in Detroit. Higher taxes for me . As A small business owner if she gets her way I will be paying the single business tax on top of my 10% federal excise tax, sales tax and my personal income tax. Thats about twice as much as everyone else. I must be filthy rich. Let her shut it down!! It will end this states affliction with Liberal big spenders and put us back on the road to lower taxes which will bring business back into this dying state. The same thing happens every time a Republican cuts taxes and creates jobs. A democrat comes along behind them and taxes the crap out of the businesses driving them to lay off, move or shut down. Just wait until Hillary gets the Whitehouse and finishes burying our industrial base. We are in for tough times my friends. Kingfisher

If there is a shut down its for non-essential programs. Hatcheries don't fit that category and would have skeleton crews to make sure fish don't die.

I heard (from Lansing) that there would be noone at the hatcheries. This could people using more scare tactics though. Hopefully there is a skeleton crew.

Detroit’s three casinos are suing to keep gambling operations open if there is a state government shutdown.
Eric Bush, a spokesman for the Michigan Gaming Control Board, said officials are expecting the casinos to serve the board’s executive director, Richard Kalm, with a lawsuit today.

Kalm has said if there is no budget deal between Gov. Jennifer Granholm and the state Legislature, he will issue a notice at 12:01 a.m. Sunday that they must cease gambling operations within 24 hours.
