Does anybody ever use a low profile baitcaster for muskie fishing? I was watching a fishing show and a pro fisherman was using what he said was his bass fishing reel with heavy line on it.

I used to use an Abu Revo that is a bass reel spooled with 50lb Power Pro on it. My brother still uses his for small crank, twitches, bucktails. He's got it on a 7' MH Gander rod. Works really well. I caught a 48.5"er on mine a couple years ago throwing a "trout spinner". (As Hemi would call it!)

I wasn't asking about a certain reel, I was just asking if it's a common thing that people do.

In the fall I went to the Bass Pro Shop in Mackinac and the ''expert'' there basically told me I was dumb for even looking at a low profile and he REALLY hated the fact that I wanted to go at a minimum of 60 lb test. he said "why do you need that heavy of line? It's a waist of money! Have you ever had a fish snap 25 lb line!? I haven't!''

that "expert" is more an a clown than an expert..

And i mentioned the thread because most of the reels mentioned in that thread are your best option for a low profile reel if you're going to get one.

for light line and small lures both Michelle and I use the Phluger Trion low profile bass reel on 8 foot flippin sticks. Loaded with 40 pound power pro they take one full 100 yard spool perfect. Never a problem with thewm in fact they have out lasted most of our other reels. Mike and Michelle

I have one of those that I put together for Brendan with same line, and I actually like it too. I have caught a few fish on it and its still chugging along. I have an off-white/gold tint version.
