What Michigan lake have you fished that you were expecting great things from and it let you down??? I would have to say for me it is Secord and Skegmog. Just curious about what others have to say. Murphy Lake is also a bummer I haven't seen a musky there in years Laugh

The let down lakes for me are the lakes I haven't fished yet.

Why don't you come over here and fish Secord or Smallwood!!! Just to see what they are like.

If he's going to drive that far he might as well make the drive to
LSC where there are more fish and he has a legitimate chance at a 50".
Sorry Will, Just thought I'd save you the work of typing that response Wink

I know but I want to see if anybody other than McGorge can score on these lakes. I am pretty sure he is the only person I know that has caught a musky on Secord, and nobody to my knowledge has caught one on Smallwood.

Dan,
I have had some decent action on Secord. Early in the year up high in the little bayous.

Yeah I know of 2 guys that have spent a good chunk of time on Secord. They have some fish to show for it, but their numbers are still too slim to get me up there (like 1 sighting for every 6-8 trips, better in the spring). On a sidenote they have nailed many 30"+, fat pike. Things will get better though…

Michelle and I were not very impressed with Ross. Dirty water it seems to be a little bit of a mud hole. Probably has some good fish in it. I dont love casting for hours enough to go there again for a few years. Secord was a nice lake but we fished it early in the year and did not go up far enough. Round was not very fun either as the launch sucked and we only had onre follow in a whole day. Kingfisher

Mixed reviews on Ross, the first time we were there we boated 2 fish in the first 10 minutes and saw 5 others over the coarse of the next 3 hours. Haven't seen a fish there since.

Secord is full of pike and largemouth that are very aggressive but I don'tthink I have given the muskies an adequate shot.

Smallwood ought to be easy but I have only been there once.

Wixom, well maybe this year I can drive the extra 8 minutes from Sanford!!!

I would have to say Bankson as of the last few years……..and thornapple has always been a thorn in my side….alll or none,,,although I still like thorn…caught my largest Michigan muskie(47)besides my big tiger,I need to fish it more than once or twice a year.I saw my largest muskie ever sitting in the river section….prop or wound mark on its back, touched her on the head with my rod tip………..easily 40 lbs.+scarey…………….

I will have to agree with Nstagator on Bankson. Somewhat of a let down but at least the fish you do get are getting fatter.

I would have to agree with Ross. It's a mud pit, besides that "one good day" nothing else but pike.. I guess we could have had follows and never even seen them because of the water clarity.
Hopefully it will turn around some day.

I think Ross is a sleeper and we need to think bigger than the three weeds in the lake. I believe Ross would be a great place to fish both open water and really, really, shallow. I am excited about going back to Ross. The lake reminds me of the lakes Bucher always fishes in his videos nasty a$$ clay banked lakes with that weird colored water. He seems to hit fish with top raiders in those lakes would that make the bait situational?? Laugh

ROSS LAKE….ROSS LAKE …ROSS LAKE….

Ok fella's I should shut my mouth and not say anything, but being the nice guy that I am I am going to pass on my muskie notes on ROSS. I worked as a mattress and furniture delivery guy working my way through college …lol still in damn school… Anyway, On many deliveries to beaverton, and houses that are by ross or on the water, I have spoke to many fisherman, or spearers who have taken MONSTER muskie..I mean many fish OVER 50"… I have seen pictures and mounts they had. Noisy topwater like Joe Bucher…well yes, that is good, in fact almost all bucher tackle is the key to Ross and has been for me, with the exception of very loud topwater. If you use my notes and get a big boy on ross, drop me a line and let me know. Ok , here goes..
1) by the far island there is a 10ft deep hole that drops quick and is not very big, but from late afternoon, until darkness they roam around island and hide right in there. I have found that a 9" Lowrider in a BRIGHT color will get you bit. ( a spot that gets speared in winter )
2) If you launch and head i think it would be northwest, heading towards the island, the go left, on the bank side there are tons of stumps out of water, it is a big mud flat, great in early carp spawn time, they break water all over there, and on this big flat i have found throwing BRIGHT Topraiders or SuperTopraiders will get you bit, have not had luck with a lowrider there. Also, a buzzbait got me a blowup before but no hook up.
3) Last 2 spots that i have had pretty good luck – on either side of bridge casting BRIGHT or Black depthraiders, I even caught a catfish and a walleye on them last season. In front of damn, same kind of baits produced BIG fish. many people, mostly locals will say live bait, but that ain't me…
Hope this helps, I plan on fishing sanford for the opener, unless its a very warm spring, then I will be at ross.
Bryan
