Just got off of the phone with a buddy of mine that I fished with on the big V. with a couple of weeks ago. Well it looks like I missed the feeding window by about a week. I went to Chad Cain's website and read his recent fishing report. Chad put he and his clients on 21 fish in a 4 day time span. 1 of the fish was 50, and a bunch were over 45. Check it out at chadcain.com I can't wait to back next year.
Just returned from V….One day in particular (last Wed 7/20) was "good"
..modest winds on reefs yielded 10 fish between 2 boats ..ChuckS
and I fished with a colleague of C Cain..mostly on west arm reefs..boated a 40 and 47 in our boat ..lost a couple others.many follows/saw several 50's cruising . Chad Cains boat (on East bay) boated 8 fish including a 50 incher (which we saw being released..a monster)…Brother also boated a thick 45 in his boat (our normal boat )..I got skunked(except for a big pike) !…Lake then went bluebird
next few days so day fishing was tough..We boated a few more fish..but Cain et al I guess were night fishing..Rubber skirted bucktails with small blades (giving a more natural profile) caught most the fish wed…(and we had none ourselves !)
We/re getting ready to book next years trip..and will try to get Chad as guide one day (he has several rock piles dialed in w/big fish)…
I also need to convince my brother he needs a bigger boat ! Rough out in main lake with 2-3 ft waves ..but thats what turned fish on it seems
(at least when water in 75-78 deg range..otherwise it appeared to be a late night bite)
Unfortunately V has been discovered/rediscovered..so several boats at times at best reefs..which are smaller than typical weed lines so can only handle a couple boats ..if that.
Beautiful scenery/big aerobatic fish..thats called muskie heaven I think..
