O.K. friends, hopefully we all have a good set of hook cutters
on board, but are they close to you when unhooking a fish?
Sounds a little silly? Well,..if they are not within a foot or so
when unhooking you could be in for an experience you wont
soon forget! Luckily mine were pretty close. Even a small pike
or muskie can deliver a quality blow. Fun times !!

I am sure this would come from Hemi too, But I don't have to worry about that. There is no danger when I don't catch fish! [smilie=brickwall.gif]

Ouch! Did you keep fishing or did you seek medical attention?

Kept fishing. It wasnt real deep(deep enough though) LOL.
I am thankfull it was a smaller fish. I cant even imagine what
a big fish would do to your hand/finger if she pinned ya.

PS- I did cut myself free and then unhook the fish. It swam away
just fine. [smilie=biggrin.gif]

HAHAHA!

My lures DO have hooks, though. Don't yours?

I got a tetanus shot when that fish bit me last year and it's good for 7 years, so if this happens to me, I'm gonna slap a Band-Aid on it and call it good! [smilie=2thumbsup.gif]

Well, with many of the smaller fish I catch say low 30's and
below I try to just water release them. No net,no touch,no pic
and just a visual estimate of size. This doesnt always work,
depends on how bad they are hooked. This one was around 32"
so I tried a quick water release. No prob,…I got long pliers, Ive
done this many times before. Ya right! It pinned me so fast I
didnt even know what happened at first. I was alone and it
was dark. My right hand was stuck so I had to do all this
with my left/off hand. Dont freek out, keep your cool.
Like I say,.. Have those cutters right by you!!
Not up front, not in a storage bin, not over
on the other side of the boat. And a basic first aid kit is helpfull
also!!

PS- Any fish I feel is mid 30's or bigger gets bump-boarded
for accuracy.
