Do you GPS users out there have any preference for the Lowrance vs. the Navionics chip for small-lake use?
Which is the better deal?
Thanks, Larry

I purchased the Navionics hot maps premium 2008 based on coverage and what the guys at Cabela's recommended. I bought the East map and only used it for about a month before I stopped fishing and it seems good to me but I don't have anything to compare it against. You can get a rebate and it is $99 after rebate so the price doesn't seem to be extreme.

You will need to look up the GPS unit you have on the manufacturers site and the website should tell you which maps you can use for your unit.

I have the Humminbird 787c2i NVB with the Navigold and hotmaps and they work great with the unit and are fairly accurate. You can select target depths which emphasize depths such as weed lines and breaks by changing color for your target depth. Nice maps and features that help out when you are trolling and trying to eat or drink at the same time.
The only thing I dont like is the suggested fish location feature – I havent ever caught a fish where the map says they should be and usually its on the other side of the lake :P.

The guys at D and R helped me pick it out.

Cool! It wasn't there last year; I looked.

Too bad there aren't any muskies there. [smilie=wink.gif]
