Haven`t been out much lately, but the last few times I have, and then days after fishing,my hand that I hold the pole with(left),my fingers, mainly thumb and index, are either locking up,or achiing. If you hold your thumb over against your hand by your forfinger,it will stick and feel WEIRD,like locking up.Got it last time out casting within hours,Am I gripping the rod to tight??Some kind of carpel tunnel or arthritis starting???

Anybody else???

Kiding aside sounds like your tendons are getting stressed, Asprin before and after…try getting a grip exercise / the kind you squeese, use it once in awhile while at the offce or at home in the easy chair, you will notice a diffrence in a short time…

Dave, I think you might be holding your "rod" too tight, try loosening your grip and make a nice easy casting motion, try not to use a herky jerky motion to quickly, nice slow and easy…. This should solve your problem 😈 😈 😈

If your lucky it will stay on your hand and not travel up into your elbows like mine has. Too many years behind the wrench causing good ole' tendonitis. Anti-inflammatories are about the only relief and as TF said work it a little to see if it will help. Of course it may have something to do with the residual effects of having portions of your hand skewered by musky hooks. 🙄

Dave Im sorry to say you are getting old like me Cry Cry Cry Cry . Tendonitas, tennis elbow ,locking fingers, swollen wrists. Arthritis. All caused by repetative grasping and stress that comes from casting ,jerking and hook setting. No stretch lines and stiff rods cause a lot of this because they put all the shock right into the elbow and wrist. Anti inflams help but in my case taking a rest and trolling is all I can do. My elbow is so sore I can hardly lift it after a day of tossing musky baits. Todd has a good suggestion with the grip device. My doctor told me to shake my hands and do things with them that are opposite of grasping. Any excercise that loosens up the joints will help. If you get swelling use ice packs to bring it down. Hot packs(moist heat) aids in healing. I use Rice bags( a tube sock full of rice) microwaved for 3 to 4 minutes. They retain moist heat for almost an hour. I wrap my elbow with one when I go to bed. Hope some of this answers your question. Mike and Michelle

Sorry Dave I couldn't resist. If I wouldn't have someone else would have Wink
My hands give me problems too. I usually take some ibuprofen before
I start fishing and that seems to help…

Dave : I have also had the same problems with my hands, usually when air temps get cooler. But one thing I might try, is what I just read in my oct. F&S mag. today, on that very problem. They said to use wrapping tape, the type used on ball bats, to increase dia. size of your casting poles handles, which they say should reduce the stress on your hands from repetitive casting, by making the poles easier to grip. —–Chuck L.
