Just as I was putting in at Ovid today, a guy pulled up in the parking lot and put a big sign on his truck offering free vessel safety check for your boat.
Turns out he was with the US Power Squadron ( <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]

), an international volunteer (I believe) organization which is trained and approved to inspect vessels and advise the owners of any safety issues their boats may have.
The inspector told me they will inspect your boat wherever it may be: on the water or in your driveway or garage. It doesn't cost anything but a little of your time, and you needen't fear fines or whatever since they only advise you if your boat is deficient somehow. I'm thinking of inviting them to give a presentation at one of our meetings next Fall.
