I was wondering if anyone fishes Campau in the fall and if so, how they have done. Have gone to murray a couple times this fall withouth any luck so I thought I would try something different and was wondering if Campau was worth going to. Also, what part of the lake would be better for me to fish? Ive heard that most of the action comes from the shallow part, is that true?
Jason,
Campau is a tuff nut to crack also. You would think do to the stocking
numbers you could easily catch good numbers there. But not so,for me
anyway.Ive never caught a fish in the deep(kettle)side but had a big
girl on right next to the boat over there.I mark alot of bigger fish on that side also??
Give it a try!Im not real good with this time of year, but try little claws,
big buck tails, bondy baits, and med-deep crank baits for the kettle side.
Jason: The Kid and me fished Campau Lake today from 2pm-dark. We seen one other MMA club member on the lake who had two follows and caught one muskie in the mid 30s by the time we were just getting on the lake, on the Campau side is where he had the action. From the landing to the right is Campau lake, max depth 15'-18', to the left of the landing through the narrows past the island is Kettel Lake, max depth is 50'. The Kid had two follows on Campau casting . Then we trolled Campau for about 1.5 hours with no luck. Then tolled Kettel for about 1 hour with no better luck, but did mark bait fish. We then casted around the island and down the east shoreline of Kettel until dark. I had a big girl , I would say about mid 40s follow my storm 10" kick'in minnow in to boat on only about my 5th cast of tring this lure out casting around the island, but I had trouble seeing my lure coming in to the boat, it came in deeper than I thought it would and I did'nt see the lure until it was amost to the end of the pole and right behind the lure was the muskie,I went into a fig 8 and it took a second look then turned away,no luck. Also the south-east end of Kettel is good, I had a mid 30s on there in the spring, and we always seem to mark big fish in that area and thats where we marked the bait fish today. Pretty good action today by 3 MMA members, only three on lake while we were out fishing today……..11/7……CHUCK L.

When the water is clear, the sun is high and wind is calm you can see the carp cruising uner the boat 10-15' down.
