Spent three days in a subtropical hurricane pattern and three days in high pressure/clear. Fished shallow as skies and temps allowed, drifted out deeper as light increased and temperatures fell. Fished mornings and evenings, primarily. Saw muskie casters on a lot of the spots after I left them. I think it must have been the Headwaters MI league that was out there Wednesday night and saw no nets swinging. That's a big league! Caught bass up to 3.5 pounds, muskie follows up to 36 inches, but generally brutal fishing. What an amazing body of water that is, though. If you can't find a cover type there, it doesn't exist! If I had it to do over again, I would throw more rubber and hit the pure cabbage beds harder. I wasted a lot of time on wind-blown structure and cover.
Water Temps: 62 falling to 57 (then rising to almost 60 by mid-day)
Clarity: 4-5 feet
Weed growth: Robust
It really is all there! Wood, broadleaf cabbage beds, tobacco cabbage beds, rock reefs and so many wind-blown channels between islands! Check out that island that looks like the ship from "Asteroids" and look at those two rock bars that come off the back end. It really does give you paralysis by analysis. Wilderness Bay Resort is a nice place to stay, too. One of the hidden highlights was a great little tackle shop in Presque Isle, WI. There's stuff in every corner of that little building! If you've ever been to the old Armstrong's in Whitehall, you know what I mean.
