Osterhout was in good form saturday as we eased out of the launch area. My first follow was minutes after that using a green frog Little claw fish missed the lure and didnt continue into the 8. I swithed to a new Glitteroil Bulldawg about 20 minutes later and scored a 33 incher on the first cast to deeper water. I was fishing with my dentist Ron Lehman. Ron is a Fly fisherman with catches including Tarpon, Permit, Snook and Bonefish. Ron moved a nice mid 30,s fish on a salt water Popper but no takes. I moved the boat to the south east corner and on an inside turn nailed a 37 incher on a Tan Perch Little Claw. Ron was getting tired so we trolled a while losing a fish on a 9$ Bass Loke. Took a lunch break with Scott and Kid Coulson who once again broke out the finest grub you could ask for . It was Beef supreme!!!!. It was great to talk with the guys and exchange information. That is what this club should be about every week on every lake. Good people+Good fishing= Good times. We went back out and trolled some more with no takers. I moved us to a very unlikly spot and we worked very shallow weeds moving a small bass or two. Came up to swan nest and she was not happy to see us. I made a cast with a top water prop bait made by Ace called a Scooter. Right next to a dock. I was taken completly by surprise as a mid 40 inch Musky chased the bait thru 12 inches of water for at least 15 feet and crushed it 10 feet from the Boat. I set the hook and she launched into a series of huge head shakes and threw the lure at me. Ron was in Shock ha ha ha ha . I was shakin, it was an azz whoppin ha ha ha . The fish just took off to our right. Ron said that was the coolest thing he had ever seen in fresh water. I was secretly bumming big time. Rons next cast was with a white tinsel fly and he connected with a huge Largemouth bass . Excitment was high for a few seconds. Still no Musky for Ron. A small front was blowing in and the winds were picking up. I set us to drift the 6 foot flats where we moved a bunch of fish but nothing ate. 3 oclock found us back at the eastern trough in big chop. It was tough holding the boat off so Ron could cast. He made a great cast to the edge of the sand bar and a 45 inch Musky crushed his Green Tarpon Fly on his second strip. after a good 5 minutes this big girl hit the net but not before taking Ron under the boat and putting on an Airial display that had Ron Shouting so Much that the locals came out to see waht was going on. All in all we mover over a dozen fish lost three and boated three. It was a great opening day. Kingfisher
