Inspired by RadDawg and MuskyTom, I tried Austin from about 9am to 2pm, water to 45 or so, very clear, still decent weeds. Really struggled in the big winds, and was bummed to find sunny skies when a good cloudy morning was predicted. Finally got tired of battling the gale and dug out the heavy anchor like my old days of soaking bait. A decent approach for specific smaller spots, the boat of course swings back and forth anchored off the bow in a big wind, and you can throw everything at 'em while not working on boat control so much. Finally got one respectable fish this way, maybe wouldn't of happened if I didn't anchor in those couple spots and worked them to death.
Hey, thanks for the interesting tidbit there. I've thought about that very thing the last couple Novembers, but never tried it. Glad to hear it worked for you! Nice work. …Two Novembers ago I had a decent size fish grab a crank/twitch bait of mine, but I couldn't set the hook because the sustained 30 mph winds were whipping me right into the shore and over the fish (yep, I was the only one on the lake that day). I lost the fish. Perhaps and anchor would have made the difference.
