Thanks for the instructional. I registered surface temps as high as 61.5 at the nothwest corner of the lake, but the majority read around 59. After reading the lesson, it would seen that this turnover should have already taken place, if the key temp is 50 degrees. I was going to ask whythe lake was so dirty until I saw your post from your trip. I wanted to know if the lake is that dirty all year, as the only previous times I had seen it was last October, twice. Thanks, Bruce.
You've got to remember the surface temps don't mean a lot as only the top few feet will be that warm. In a deep lake, especially if it's spring fed, it takes a while for the thermocline to set up. There was no thermocline yet, it's pretty evident on the graph once it gets set up. Usually you'll have to see consistent surface temps around 65 before there is a solid thermocline in most lakes.
