Water temp unknown, took the little jon-boat with portable unit that has no temp (need to upgrade that ancient unit, I think it has maybe two dozen pixels too). Still some decent weeds left. Water somewhat clear to oily looking with reddish stuff floating around that resembles vomit residue.

Had a good day, biggest was a 43" fatty that's been the best I've caught from my area lakes this year, a year which has been OK for numbers but not size. The fighting habits of fish from different waters are interesting, it seems like Murray fish in particular like to roll and twist, the fat gal tried to make herself into a mummy.

You might find that no matter what the lake, as the water gets colder all muskies tend to do the "death roll" on you. It's a darn good way to lose a fish, an effective technique used by the fall fatties. If you see it coming, it is the only time when slack lining them is your best move!

I experienced the "death roll" today. The 38" Campau fattie rolled over a good 12-20 times… made a big mess.

Thanks for the tip on the death roll. I've seen this on Murray more than other places, but have only boated muskies on a few waters this late in the year so not much experience to go on. Maybe fatness in general is a factor in this tendency, there's a small pike stream I like where they grow fat on stocked brownies, and roll like fat muskies when hooked.
