Three boaters rescued from Lake Macatawa
(Ottawa County, April 14, 2006, 4:37 p.m.) The U.S. Coast Guard pulled its boat out of storage Friday to assist three people when their catamarans overturned on Lake Macatawa in Ottawa County.
Pieter Sheridan and two friends were boating when they say the wind quickly picked up, tipping their vessels over.
Two of the boaters were in the water for 15 to 20 minutes. They had life jackets on, but only one had on a wetsuit.
“We've been sailing for ten-plus years…Sometimes you get in a sticky situation. Kinda what happened today,” Sheridan told 24 Hour News 8.
All three friends ended up making it safely to shore.
The water temperature is in the mid-40s, so there was some concern about hypothermia. But, everyone is doing well.
