Fished Ovid with Greg Mochty from 7:15 am until about 1:30 pm. Water temps from 62 to 64 degrees, water a bit more stained than I recall it being this time of year, weeds starting to mat on the surface. Finally, the musky God's had pitty on me and delivered. Caught 5 fish, biggest was 40 inches the other four were in the low 30 inch class. Greg M. moved two others as well. All casting. Guess I will not be having me a tackle fire sale along with Bryan after all.

Nice… I wish I was only 50 miles away from that lake.

I wish I was less than 20 from the multiple honey holes down by you. Of course you probably got 5 by the close of opening day. I guess every dog has his day. I'll likely be waiting until August for my next one…LOL.

LOL!!! The myth that there's more good water in West Michigan. Right… You need to look at a map then decide who has the better opportunity… Let me help:

OK, you are not seriously going to argue that the fishing is better up my way are you? Now don't get all huffy, I'm not starting the us v. them business again. However, I think you have to admit there are much more numbers lakes by you then up this way. Unfortunately with the tragedy on Budd it looks like Ovid is our closest shot for a numbers lake.

No there are great trout er… muskie ponds but they aren't all twenty minutes away either. However, limiting yourself to certain water in your area might be missing some excellent fishing. It took me preaching Wixom for years before anyone started fishing it and now no one wants to talk about it… I'll bet the same thing will happen with Sanford in three years. All the while, other lakes on the chain still seem to get ingnored… when there are some great opportunities.

What I'm saying is that I would trade you in a heartbeat for the water in that area compared to the water in SW Michigan.

I hope you are right about the 3 year prediction Will. VHS has me really scared. I'm just hoping with the amount of water flush that system gets that maybe we will be spared from a big infection. Time will tell.

Greg, thanks. Always a pleasure to share a boat. I'll be sending some scraps your way shortly. Plus, you know the hot bait.

Our Engineering Supervisor has a cottage on Smallwood. He is always telling me of his neighbors incidental musky catches, and quite often.
