Greg mocty and I ventured down to Anchor Bay Saturday and fished 6 am to 2 pm. Eastwind, lots of boat generated waves, water was a bit murky from being churned up, water temps in the 72 to 74 degree range. We caught a fat 35 inch pike, had 3 follows and I lost a mid to upper 40 incher at the boat. Heartbreaker, she hit my Hellhound not 6 feet from the boat and came airborne right away. She then shot right at the boat, I never got hooks in her and she slashed free at the boat. One of these days I'm going to have a multiple fish day down there like I hear everyone talk about.
Mike:
We did think about trolling but there was so much floating crap we decided against it. Plus I figured the trolling would be better on the ON side and Greg didn't have an ON license. I have nothing against trolling at all, in fact your odds (unless of course your name is Will) are probably better trolling, it is just that I'm not that good at it and it's not as much fun to me as casting. Of course, catching fish instead of getting blanked would have been more fun in hind sight.
When there is floating crap we run DOWN RODS . I run my rods almost verticle down and face the guides right into the on coming slop. The rod catches the crap and keeps it off the leaders and lures. You can get 10 to 20 minutes inbetwenn cleanings by dodging and cutting and making hard turns and such. These tactics also add a lot of start, stop flutter action to the baits speeding and slowing one side or the other know what I mean?. Also good waters a little to the south west near the dumps where weeds are not that bad. Us Waters. Im heading up to Canada Friday for 14 days of casting. Ill be hapy to return to the Belle and my Milk run of hot trolling spots 🙂 🙂 🙂 . Keep plugging and you will be rewarded. St. Clair has the Fish . Kingfisher
