Was it a new shallow invader with the plasma hook or a old one with a mustad?

Hi WIll. It was an old one with a mustad. It snapped just after the point of tangency coming down from the shank.

That's what I guessed. The new hooks are much softer and might bend a little but won't break. I'm still surprised about the mustad though, they aren't an overly hardened hook like some others. There was probably an imperfection in the hook that caused the break.

Yesterday on White Lake I had a nice steelhead break a barb off a mustad treble (X5 flatfish). There went some good meals and the spawn I needed.
