I'd say they've all been in the last 3-4 years. Most are second-hand, but last year I had a guy call me and tell me first hand about spearing 2 in one week. He called to ask if there were any resources to help him with ID. Sounded like he was gonna puke on his shoes. I tried to get him to call Tonello directly.
I'd say I've relayed maybe 8-10 over four years, but it's usually something I hear about weeks, months or a year later. Every winter I hear a few "last winter" stories. I can say that our COs have exhibited heavy pressure this winter, particularly the last few weekends. I got stopped coming off the lake on 1/31 and they were buzzing around on snowmobiles last Saturday night, stopping at every shanty.
And yet Tonello told me he hasn't gotten any reports on undersized fish being taken. Hard or soft water…
Good to hear the CO's are out enforcing though.

I can't believe I haven't stumbled upon this website over the years. Interesting comments below each video from a board member of the MDAA.
"Pretty soon there won't be many other fish in the lake. Perch, walleyes and other species populations are down due to the over-population of muskies. It's time to harvest not "catch and release" a few of these…"
"Many fisheries biologists now agree that there is no scientific reason to this outdated ban. Even if you targeted muskies through the ice you would be lucky to spear a legal size fish every 4-6 outings. These charter guys are boating 6-10 fish a day and killing at least 30% of those…we need to bring back the time honored muskie spearing tradition to Lake St. Clair."
He makes a comment regarding the "very obvious difference between the look and color of this muskie and pike.." I'm sure most of us could clearly tell the difference, especially in clear water and with GLS muskies. The general public, especially with lakes with northern strain, not so much. I agree, it would be great to get some video of a muskie through a spear hole.
