We had our annual family vacation on the upper chain last week, and as usual had a great time. Muskie fishing was minimal and slow as usual, since kids learning to love the outdoors is more important than me catching a muskie…
Here are some observations:

Weather for the week was pretty stable with temps from 69-74 during the day and down into the low 50's at night. A few clouds everyday, but a few hours of sunlight each day too.

Water levels were extremely high, and there are some interesting legal/political things going on locally that I hope will fix this issue and make for better access to fishing!

Six-Mile:
Temps in the 67-69 range depending on time of day and amount of sun.
Weeds looked OK despite having been treated on 6/11. Found some green-ish cabbage, and other decent weeds shallow, unfortunately the deeper milfoil/pondweed mix in the 12-18 ft range was either really delayed, or was more effected by the treatment.
Clarity was normal with a brown/black tint to the water and about 8' visibility.
Trolled and casted a pretty even mix.
Fish were contacted on jerks and blades. Nothing on rubber, and nothing in the net.
Did manage a 26.875" walleye on a streetwalker, casting…
Pike were on fire, but not after big baits.
Water level was up about 10" on day one and 5-6" on day 6.

St Clair:
Temps from 66-69, again dependent on time and sun.
Weeds looked similar to Six Mile, with greenish brown cabbage, but the shallower mix was more developed.
Clarity about the same as Six Mile.
Casted pretty exclusively, and fish again reacted to blades and jerks.
Nothing in the net, but did at least see a couple, and watched my brother blow it on a figure 8 again. Some people don't learn.
Bass were pretty lethargic, and pike would eat anything with orange or gold on it. Kids had a blast reeling in pike at a rate of about 10 per hour.
Gills are starting to spawn, and those also provided for some great entertainment on flyrods with spiders, and waxworms under a bobber.
Water levels were up 16-18" on day one, making getting to the boats to fish a chore, and greatly diminished our motivation after a while. The last couple days it dropped steadily, but was still up 10" when we left. The biggest issue with this is that it increased the size of the lake by about 50%, and baitfish scattered to all parts of the lake. Everything was very spread out and hard to reach, and it took a few days to figure out any sort of pattern to anything…

Ellsworth:
Water temps were about the same, clarity about the same, and weeds a little delayed shallower and decent deeper.
I only fished for a couple hours throwing swimbaits and jerks, and didn't contact anything.
Water level was 4 inches lower than St Clair when I got there, and about normal when I left…

We really need to get with the association pres. about the KTD sign on Six Mile. There are signs in there about everything but muskies, and there is lots of room!
