Took a vacation day Friday and Brad Roberts came up for a long weekend of casting in search of that November giant. Fished hard for 3 days, mostly focusing on the lower chain. Forecast didn't look promising heading into the weekend but it didn't turn out to be too bad. Temps didn't get much lower than the upper 20s and stayed in the low 30s most of the time over the 3 days with light but steady snow.
Friday: We lucked out with very minimal wind for most of the day, which allowed us to spend the entire day on the lower chain. Only one fish contacted all day around late morning that came on a boatside strike over open water for Brad that made it to the net for his first chain fish. Pretty looking fish and sweet strike, but it was not the giant we were after. Snow storm moved in as the sun went down and winds picked up but the weather change did not induce any more action.
Saturday: Heavy winds overnight and in the morning pushed us north to smaller water, as my little boat can't handle the big water when its that rough. Fished the upper chain all morning and into the afternoon with Chris joining us around mid-day. Contacted 2 fish but neither ate. The wind slowed down a bit later in the day so we packed up and hit Bellaire on the way home for a few hours at dusk but no luck.
Sunday: Brad had to get home to the wife and baby so I went out solo on Elk from sunup til around 1 when I decided to get off to watch the sad show known as the Detroit Lions. No fish were found.
All in all a great weekend on the water.
