Water temps were down to 74 last week, back up to 77 – 78 again now.
Lots of floating weeds. Ducks will sit in a 4 -6 foot deep spot feeding and when they leave there will be a big patch of grass that they pulled up that goes floating off.
Casting last week Wednesday with 2 follows, one was a nice looking fish that followed the 8 through one turn. Saw another small one on Friday.
8/15 am was trolling, my kicker throttle was sticking so rather than my usual ~4 mph was running 5 in the same spot as the nice follow last week when a muskie smoked a spinnerbait on an inside planer board. Cleared my down rod, got the planer board off, had fish by the boat when I messed up and rushed the net job. Poor swing, half in the net, he flopped out and got off. Solid 40ish inch fish.
Trolling again last night. 9 pm, at idle speed while I cleared weeds from the lines and changed baits. Put out a short line (15 feet) silver stick bait, was setting line on the other side of the boat when a fish ~36 inches hit the stick bait. Got him in the net. Nice spotted great lakes strain fish. Water 77 – 78 degrees and not a big fish so I just did a rough measure with tape I have at water line on side of boat and let him go without taking it out of the water.
Stupid fish – one hits at 5 mph and another less than 1 mph.
