Took the wife and kid up to Winyah for a long weekend. Didn't fish for Muskie as much as I wanted to but still had a blast chasing panfish and bullheads with the boy.
Weeds were high as expected but not as bad as I've seen in years past. Seemed like the water level was up so that may be why the weeds weren't as much of an issue.
Fished Friday-Sunday with great weather all weekend but they just had a storm roll through Friday morning as we drove up. I'm sure that didn't help my situation any.
Caught a lot of pike and some dandy largemouths throwing the big stuff. Lost a few that felt good but never saw them. So I didn't see any Muskie but those few fish I lost felt damn good. They have some great pike in there so it could have been that too. Got tired of fighting the wind so I went up the river to try for some smallies and cleaned house. Just about every cast we had fish on or had strikes.
Ran into a C/O, first time ever in 25 years of fishing that lake. Talked to them about Muskie a bit and they haven't heard much from people catching anything but a few legal fish have been caught now. They think the growth rate is right about on target of where they were shooting for.
Overall a great weekend, No Skies but a great way to spend the 4th.
