At camp with the wife and kids, SO good to be in God's country with the boat tied at the dock for 4 days, ready for action. But, with family time I only averaged about 5.5 hours per day, mornings and evenings. Early mornings never seem to be productive on this stretch of river, but sure are gorgeous. Water stayed right around 70. Lots of people up for the holiday on the river, but far less on the upper 8-16 miles away from the mouth/boat launch/campground. Caught a couple small muskies each day, 10 year old daughter caught a few northerns, the other 2 kids do not quite have the desire or persistence (yet? 😀 ).
Two highlights were a mid-30's muskie that swiped but missed my daughter's twitch bait, all I heard from behind me was "whoa! wha!… wha!… a fat fish just… zoomed by my bait!!…" could not get that fish to go again for her.
Other highlight was this nice 38" that crushed a topraider, made an impressive show of whitewater for a few seconds and then jumped straight up and cleared the water by 2 feet. It was awesome and great spectacle for all to see. I quickly handed the rod off to the wife, who got whipped pretty good by the fish because it managed to shake the front hook on the jump, and was only hooked behind gills on the top of its back. He had the leverage on her [smilie=biggrin.gif] . In the end we got him for pic though. p.s. I'm the ugly old doofy looking one
Not the wife's first, and as she (correctly) said, not her fish as she didn't make the cast!
And we were staying at a extended- family cabin, but there are a few on that stretch that you can rent including right in the state park campground which is right on the river at the mouth. And it is not bad at all on lower units there, not totally failsafe but very close!
