Water Temp: 34-37
Water Clarity: Gin
Weeds: Not many weeds in this lake…
Had some warmer weather and some vacation time left to use so had to try one more time before its too late. If anything, I love an excuse to test out the autochart on my new graph that our new president graciously sold me. This autochart thing is addictingly badass and I cannot wait to put more time on the water with it. With nearly everything locked up now, we were down to just 2 options left, maybe 3 if you count the bay. The access site was a mess, as it hasn't been plowed out at all so it was pretty dicey trying to get the boat on. We were able to get in but getting out was a challenge as we almost got the truck and trailer stuck going up the hill on the way out. Thank God for 4 wheel low.
Fished from 0930 till sunset. Casted rubber all day over all sorts of depths. Could not find much bait except for a few areas that we tried to focus most on. No action for most of the day, until just before sunset, Chris hooks up with and lands a gorgeous December fatty. Surprisingly, it was not in the 50# class these waters are known for, nor was it even 50", but when she hit the net, I have to admit it was the most thrilling moment of my muskie career considering the location and circumstances. I give my congratulations to Chris on this one. I don't know of many, if any, who can say they've caught a muskie casting the depths of Elk, in December no less. Hopefully, this isn't the end to the season just yet, although if it is, its a pretty darn good way to close it out.
