Fished: 5:30-9pm
Temp: 76-78
Clarity: Brown stain with 1-2' visibility
Weeds: Lot of floating junk around the lake, milfoil still matted around the lake
Checked Thorn to see if the water temps were down and it was a nice surprise to see some mid-70s. Threw topwater, rubber, and jerks, but didn't have too much action. Moved one smaller fish on a medussa, but she was not active at all. Had a little confrontation with a local as they pulled up 30 yards in front of us and then proceeded to yell at us when we continued to fish past them. The guy tried to cast his musky bait at us (which was a large rapala on a salmon style spinning rod), but it didn't work out so well as the line snapped and he lost his bait.
I had this same thing happen to me Friday night. Boat pulls up in front of my drift and anchors right in front of me and they start casting some Mepps. I keep fishing and proceed to loop outside and around him with the trolling motor and he throws his hands up in the air at me, shaking his head as if I did something wrong. Not really sure what else I was supposed to do in that situation, its not like I went between him and the shoreline and I definitely kept my distance. Maybe he felt like I should have just packed up and left once he anchored in front of me…who knows.
The Thorn locals are an odd bunch, that's for sure.
lol.. how did he lose his rapala? Did the line literally just snap?
And the 1 other time i actually fished thorn this year i had the same thing happen twice to me but a couple of old grandpa types..
Pulled right in front of me like jason and Matt said and just anchored while i was drifting. A lot of classless locals out there.
