Fished the Upper French River for a week with fellow member Adam Minnick staying at Lunge Lodge.
The weather for the week started out blazing hot in the mid/upper 80's and progressively cooled throughout the week. The last day we actually had to go with a few layers. Wind and clouds changed throughout the week and gave us the entire range of weather with the exception of snow.
Water temp was anywhere from 76-67 depending on the day and location. Water clarity is great. Weed growth was mostly milfoil or cabbage and present in certain areas. The depth varies anywhere from 200 feet with steep edges to shallow bays depending on location, though you must exercise caution or a prop/lower unit could be destroyed easily. We did witness a boat hit a rock reef at about 25 mph and go airborne (they were ok… we did check on them).
We focused mainly on a windblown rock pattern that seemed to be showing us fish. Throughout the week we contacted about 20 fish, with 6-7 of them attempting to eat. We only managed to keep hooks in a couple, but they were 2 of the heaviest low 40's fish you will see. We lost a good fish on a headlock, and I lost a big fish on a Cannonball Jr. I also lost a Talonz Deepthreat, and a lure retriever on Snagzilla in 60' of water… for a few seconds we thought we scored a giant.

All in all, it was an awesome trip. I absolutely cannot wait to go back, though it won't be any time soon.
If anybody ever considers this body of water, I would highly recommend it. You will not be dissapointed. Also, Steve and Mike at Lunge Lodge are great host, and very accomodating.
