I feel horrible for not posting a lot this year, my previous job was hell, just took a new job and have been busy but I got out a lot recently. Do believe I've seen Jim and will out on thorn fishing so I don't feel too terrible on not posting! No pun intended fellas I know your just as busy!!
Water temp= unknown… Had problems with some equipment been fishing off feel lol!!!
Clarity= amazing; the water is pretty low right now weed lines/structure very visible I've been running off that.
Saturday was a cold morning. Not used to reels freezing up decided to troll.. Took one ski off of the big weed island on the north end of the lake on a banquet bait my little brother picked up; pike pattern that previously in the year I actually dived for this summer.. Talk about " dumb redneck" stuff… Swam down and pulled it off a tree in the river, wont ever do that again, very eerie diving down in thorn. Fish was a GLS 31 inches and a fatty, my third I've caught in two years very healthy. Was hooked good, cut the hooks. It felt amazing not tearing it's mouth I love my knipex best investment yet. Fished Sunday was about to call it a day, came around the bend drifting off the other smaller weed island on the lake whole fishing a medusa black/orange when I had a hit. Set the hook hard, felt pressure and then felt it pull harder back, mild shake and them nothing. Had some good teeth marks on the head of my lure… Still dumbfounded. Not sure if I had the wrong set up or I didn't hit it as hard as I should.. Really been bothering me. In my head he swallowed it whole. I pulled.. He pulled back and then let it go.. It was the heaviest fish that I have ever felt in freshwater… Good motivation I guess.. Sharpened the hooks and I'll be back at it this weekend. Wish me luck!

Nice work Josh. Don't let that fish discourage you I'm not a seasoned angler like some on here but I can tell you my experience with rubber baits is it's all on how the fish hits it. It's pretty easy for them to just hang on to the bait if it doesn't have any of the hooks in their mouth. They sink teeth into the soft rubber and pulling it doesn't always budge it. I've got a few baits that have been melted back together with no fish in the net to their credit. Ya they definitely work well for moving fish but my conversion on hookups is probably like 60%. Maybe others have better success but that's my 2cents.

Yep, I don't post reports on days when I'm guiding. Had some great days there as of late, lots of first and biggest fish.

We fished Thorn Friday, the weather was beautiful with the snow coming in but absolutely no action. Threw pounders, glides, and spinnerbaits…

Losing fish is part of the game and I know it's easy to try to internalize it but don't spend to much time worrying about that kind of stuff. The biggest thing that I've learned is to keep my hooks sharp and do my best to get a good hook set. After that it's really just luck trying to get it into the net….

Unless Matt is netting…

Nick is about 60% higher success than I am! I had one practically eat the rubber off the harness last year, thankfully it was Jim's and not mine 😈 and it still didn't get hooks in her. a few with no tails too… its definitely not that they don't work, i get tons of action on them, just have terrible luck.
