I'm just wondering what the water temps for the SW lakes have been like? Bankson was pushing 80 at the beginning of the week and I'm betting its over 80 now. I've been hearing many reports of low 80's on other lakes, even in the early morning hours. Just wondering if I will be able to make it out Saturday or not. Unfortunately it might almost be time for the dreaded annual summer shut down.

Thornapple was in the upper 70s late last week and Upper Crooked was mid-upper 70s early last week. It looks like the weather is supposed to be relatively cooler for the next several days (mid-upper 70s as opposed to the 80s we have had lately) so hopefully with some cooler nights the water temps wont get too high too soon giving us another couple weeks of fishing down here.

Campau: 81.5 when I started, and cooled off to 80 when I left around 10pm. Caught 1 muskie that didn't have any trouble whatsoever releasing. Just quickly cut the hook, measured, and she actually jumped out of my hands into the water, and shot off.

Murray and campau have both been 80s in the afternoons since Sunday night. Hope the cool down this week knocks them down. July sucks!

With the cooler temps coming and all the rain, won't that help pull them down a bit?

I think even 75 degrees is pushing it sometimes, especially on larger fish. We've had problems releasing fish with temps in the lower to mid 70's, waves are a big problem along with hordes of boats driving around since they will swim on the surface for quite awhile.

As Swanezy mentioned I found a pretty nice dead fish Saturday. It was around 44" and was nearly identical to one posted on Facebook by a local angler (non-MMA) that I run into often. I am not accusing him of anything at all, he is a very experienced fisherman and from what I have seen handles fish adequately. Fish are going to die to anyone who fishes long enough, it's just going to happen. But I do have to believe catching this fish in temps that were well into the low 80's on Friday, then taking it out of the net for a measurement and pictures for FB most likely contributed to its death. Again I am not trying to accuse him of anything at all, that's why I won't mention his name. I do feel though it is a good reminder that avoiding unnecessary measurements and pictures is probably the way to go when the water get this warm. The water had dropped to 77-78 for the weekend, but I know at least for myself I still wont take them out of the water at those temps. Most everyone in this club is very good about these things, but a reminder never hurts (especially for the new guys).
