After much discussion about it being sunny and avoiding Murray today, I remembered the last couple posts here about not seeing anything too active for a couple days, and resisted going to Campau.
Water was 39.whatever and a pretty greenish brown in most places. I did play titanic a bit in the coves, but thankfully had a better outcome. Weeds are pretty much laying down, and only had a couple that were actually green… mostly from 12+ fow.
I went out with suckers, and started at about 12:30. I got the first rod in the water, got the boat in position and just grabbed for a casting rod when the clicker started buzzing. I looked back to see line screaming thru the water, from deep to shallow and back a couple times. I finally got in position, set the hook, and my thumb slipped off the spool, leaving me with one heck of a back lash, and a terrible hookset. After I dejectedly got the backlash out, I started reeling in hoping I at least still had a sucker, when I realized the fish was still there! After a couple minutes of thrashing and about 15 more hooksets just to make sure, I had a nice fat 43" in my net.
About 15-30 minutes later, and just around the corner, I was about ready to check a line for weeds and/or move when the clicker started singing again. The fish took it straight to the bottom, and wanted to stay under the boat. After a few minutes of trying to cheese her off enough to swim away, I finally got in position, and sealed the deal on a nice 45" that couldn't possibly fit any more in her belly.
The next thee hours was a bust, and even tho I marked a few more, got no easters.
