Water mid 50s, good clarity and weeds. Fished noon until dark. Was anxious to get back after a decent opener and ornery Thorn was back, not much contact at all. Wasn't fishing well either, and in trying to hit a favorite place toward sundown a big angry swan charged and kept coming. I've avoided them when I needed to before but this seemed like it wanted in the boat, beating its wings like it'd hop up and in.
So I end up going full blast with the electric, this damn thing chasing me across the lake, the ridiculousness of it all included there not being time to pull in the troller and get on the gas motor since it seemed it'd be on me in the time it'd take to make the change. If I'd had my trusty Ruger I'd tap 2 in that MF'ers chest and claim self defense. Finally it gives up and I get on the gas motor and throw wake in its face as I head to my last spot, having lost serious prime sundown fishing time to this utterly idiotic experience.
Then I get darn lucky and a decent one hits hard and stays pinned at the last spot right after sundown. It was good meeting Don W. and his boys after she was in the net, and Don took a much appreciated pic.
My cousin got sent to the hospital when he was little due to swan attack, no joke. The swan charged and hit him on the legs twice and as he backpeddled he fell backwards and hit his head and needed stitches. Nasty creatures. The DNR will remove, aka exterminate overly agressive swans that mess with lake residents and boaters. My guess if he is that bad they will get some calls and your money spot will be swan free again.
Thanks for the laugh this morning, Joe! Hope you don't catch the "swan flu"… 😯

I think Angry Birds should have a swan or two in their line-up.

Man all I wanted after almost 9 hours of futile casting was to fish that last spot at sunset, and instead I'm on a low speed chase across the lake with a raging swan.
But I have to still tip my hat to that dumb bird. As I rushed him at 25 mph to swerve wake in his face, he just glared at me and waited, ready to fight me and my boat. And he made me end the night at a different place which made the whole night even more memorable.
