Water temp 70 to 71 degrees
Water clarity good at probably 7 feet
Weed growth close to perfect fishability, some curly-leaved pondweed up near the top but other types easy to fish over, some clumps down to 17 feet
Weather cool and sunny, NW moderate, very comfortable for late May
Fished 10:45AM- 1:45PM, no fish seen. Bait starting to layer out at 12' down over parts of the basin, some bigger bodies out there too.
Meanwhile at Macatawa, drumbalaya seems to have started as fish were eating with abandon in the evening. Alewives are spawning as well in Mac.

Like that Drumbalaya term! Saturday I was on a river and thought I had a big walleye from what I could tell from the shape fighting down in the depths. Turns out it was dogfish-o'-rama, but these less desirable fish are still fun and much of how we see them just stems from traditional perceptions. They are still a heckuva lot better than nothing (or the weeds and sticks I catch much of the time).
