Went out to the big lake for some salmon fishing. These things are a HOOT!!(and they taste good). The water has flip flopped and the surface temps are now 50-51ish. Man was it cold out there! We launched at Kollen Park with shorts and t-shirts on but was so cold out on the big lake you could see your breath! Luckily we had extra clothes on board. Went 3 for 4 (2 kings, one Laker). The biggest was 13lbs. Got all fish between 140 and 144 FOW about 80 feet down. 2 came on spoons, and the big king ate a fly. Fished from about 6 to 9pm. The 2 kings(double header) came about 1/2 hour or so before dark. Fun times!,..cold,..but fun!!
Nice going, they sure are delicious. I have a couple buddies who spend almost every fishable weekend out there. They've been doing real well this year also. I can't wait for labor day weekend and our annual trip to the Pere Marquette river after kings. As much I love muskies they don't compare to a 25-30lb king in a small river on spinning gear.

Ya its been a great season out there from what I hear and see. Thats what got me interested in trying it. I went out with a buddy and some of his friends a few weeks ago and went 9 for 14 in about 3 hours! Man I was hooked! Plus they taste great!! I ran the basic stuff out of my boat but still caught some decent fish. Cant wait to try it again!
big lake fishing has been great this year, my dad's charters have limited out A LOT by 9 am some days.. over 30 fish several trips. Was some of the best fishing he has seen out there in 25 years.
Lake mich just turned over last wk, and the fishing has slown down a little, but it is still good compared to last year's numbers. Shows how spoiled everyone was this year out there.

Because overall I still like muskies more and they're a lot closer to home. There's a chance I'll get out before Labor Day though.
Ask Will about fishing the Kalamazoo for them 😀 😀
LM was nuts for smallies over the weekend, and early last week before the CF moved in up at Mackinaw
