A friend, Brent Robbins, invited me to fish St Clair with him, my first opportunity to fish musky heaven. Chase Klinesteker came also.
Water temp 40-42 both days, but conditons were much nicer on Thursday. Launched at the north channel ramp. Jigged and trolled the river with no success. Brent took us out into St Clair to troll with planer boards. We trolled around Grass Island most of the afternoon, with two strikes but no hook ups.
Just before dark, a rod went off. I was closest to Brent, so he handed it to me. I was very blessed to bring in my personal best, 49.5" x 23". After cutting hooks, taking pictures and reviving the fish for release, it was DARK. Fortunately for us, Brent had put down a waypoint on the GPS coming out of the north channel. It's amazing how far 1-2 fow goes out off that island. We would have found our way eventually, but it would have taken a lot longer then the one hour it took us.
Friday was cloudy and windy. We tried going back to Grass Island, but it was too rough. Trolled and jigged the channel with one 30" pike for our effort.
Pictures are on Chase's camera. I hope to post when he sends them.
