Fished 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, water temp 40-42, remnant weeds only very shallow, clarity better than my past intro to this clay-swill lake. Last time it resembled some sort of pudding, even seemed thicker than actual water. Could see some this time, two feet or more, and the water seemed like normal liquid. I do like this lake though, it's different from the others I fish and calls for different tactics.
Was glad to get two in the net, both were very heavy early winter fish in this shad forage based fishery, and the better low 40 inch range fish was quite the beast for her length. I had finished November with three skunks in a row on Thorn, not many chances during those visits either, but at least the pike action was steady. This might wrap up the season but who knows, I've never caught a Michigan musky in January or February and it'd be great if we could get out there and give 'em a go in very early 2013 or at least another time or two this month.
