Friday 5/18 – Barbee Chain – Fished Big Barbee from 7:00-3:30
Clarity: Slight stain but still 7' visibility
Weeds: Good milfoil and pondweed out to 12'
Temp: 68-71
Weather: HOT – 75, sunny, slight wind
Fished the big hole right as you enter Barbee from Kuhn for the entire day. Marked a lot of shad out there so we knew the fish would be close by. Moved a mid-30s fish around 9am on a white magdawg but it spooked away at the boat. Went awhile without seeing anything until my partner moved a handful of fish on kickin' minnows from 2-3:30pm. No fish in the boat.
Saturday 5/19 – Webster from 7:00-3:30
Clarity – very stained at 1-2' due to spraying the weeds
Temp: 70-72
Weather: HOT 80-85, sunny, slight wind
Jumped around the 3-4 basins in the lake searching for suspended baitfish. Main basin was packed with musky boats so decided to fish Echo bay and marked LOTS of baitfish. Didn't move anything so moved for a couple hours, but came back to echo around noon. Couple of casts in with a kickin minnow and a fish smoked it right after a rapid increase in speed. Got her in the net at 36.5". Went a couple more hours without seeing anything but then around 2pm again had a brief flurry of activity. My partner lost a decent fish on a medussa at 2:30 and then had another fish swipe at the medussa around 3. 1 fish in the boat with another lost.
Sunday 5/20 – Tippy from 7:00-1:30
Clarity – Clear around 12'
Temp: 73
Weather: HOT 90, sunny, slight wind
Fished open water again in the 20-30' range. Only moved one fish on a shadilc around 10am, but raised her 3 times on 4 casts. No fish in the boat and heard it was tough for everyone. Talked to some guys who moved some fish but they were out deeper in the 40-60' range.
Little different fishing down there in the summer compared to in March. Pretty easy fishing as all you have to do is look for suspended baitfish or just look for all the musky boats casting open water lol. Also very different fishing so close to other people. Boats would drive in and start fishing within a cast length of your boat, but I guess that is just normal down there. I really love the suspended fishing and there are a lot of healthy fish down there. I really think night fishing would be amazing on these lakes as there are just so many people fishing during the day. It was interesting talking to others and seeing all the results as there were 2 distinct windows. We definitely noticed it as well from the first 2 days fishing. 1 from 11-12:30 and another from 2-3:30. 30 fish were caught the entire tourny out of 120 anglers. Webster actually produced 14 with Barbee and Tippy giving out 8 each. I think a big reason for webby giving out more fish was the dirty water. The bright, blue sides didn't effect the fish as much with only 1' visibility.

Funny you should say that as my legs are a little sore from bending over and figure 8ing at the boat. With the suspended fish you definitely have to do a figure 8 or two after every cast as fish will come out of no where and start chasing the bait even though they didn't follow it in.
Michelle and I went there once and saw maybe 100 fish following . We figure 8'd until our freaking arms fell off. By the half way point we were so burnt from the 8's we had to troll and caught a couple on tuff Shads. We trolled two down rods right around all the casters. It worked great. Those were the days when you could see 100 or more fish in one day on Webster. Believe it or not they will use your boat for cover. I had a picture somewhere Michelle took of one sticking its snoot out from under our boat.Every time we brought a lure in it would turn a little and look but not move. I burned a bucktail right past its nose like 20 times and it didn't even move. Mike
