We spent the week on the upper half and fished a bit every day. Water temps were from 75.4-79.8 depending on when and where.
Weeds in 6 Mile are out of freiken control, and were taking over all of my spots except maybe one. All of the cabbage except two or three small spots was completely covered with milfoil, to the surface, out to 13-14 fow.
The north end of the lake was basically solid milfoil from shore to shore from the power line to about 100 yards from the channel to st clair.
I spent most of my time on st clair because I was fishing with my 5 yr old, and didn't want to be too far from home in case of usual 5 yr old emergencies or changes of heart!
As I went down the chain the weeds got thinner, and more fishable, ellsworth looked OK, Wilson a little better, and so on. Intermediate looked really nice for this time of year.
As for the fishing, I marked baitfish in deeper water, but no marks around them. I fished dawgs and pounders for the first 2-3 days with one pull on a tail. Then it got hot, and I switched to mostly night fishing.
I landed dozens of pike including 2 about 30", and 3 walleyes on grandmas and little claws, one ate on the turn at boat side.
For the first few days we had a couple lazy follows each day and nothing to show for it, then thursday night I had 2 fish on, one 30+ and one 45+ and lost both. Both came off of the edge of deeper cabbage in about 13-14 fow.
And regrettably that is about all the news I have. 0-2 for a whole week, and it was tough getting those 2. I really need to get this skunk/hook pulling skunkmonkey off my back, and out of my boat!
Oh, and there was a massive hex hatch on 6-mile for a couple consecutive nights. I was able to stick a couple good gills and a couple big smallies on hex flies… However I am pretty sure as those critters are emerging, everything in the lake is eating them, making everything in the lake pretty tough to catch. And I wonder if this bug/baitfish activity has any effect on the muskies???
So I was just looking at the master angler awards, and realized I should have taken some pics! My 2 yr old daughter caught an 11 1/4" rock bass and a 9" pumpkinseed! My son (5) also caught a 9" pumpkinseed. They would have fun with the MA thing I am sure… not to mention I have been after that darned rockbass patch for my orvis wading jacket for like 2 yrs now!
So, despite the slow musky activity the week wasn't a total loss!

If you want your MA rock bass patch, just fish Clam…with muskie baits…
They are filthy in that lake! I had a day on Hardy pond where I caught 4 that were around 14-15" no problem, and didn't get the idea about the MA thing till later on… naturally I haven't repeated such success…
