Water Temp – 80
Monday – Launched in the Cheboygan river and cruised down to black. I immediately started banging hammer handles which wasn't helping my plan of catching a legal sized pike for dinner. About an hour in I was taking my bait out of the water when a fish hit at the absolute last possible second. I was like yes! finally a legal pike. But nope, a beautiful 24" gls natural flopping at boatside. My first fish from this system and it's a dink. oh well.
Tuesday – Fished the same area with the prospect of seeing some bigger fish. 10 mins in and a mini-mite hits. I think it's just another dink pike, but low and behold it's my second black river musky. I put it in the net because I was going to snap a photo, but the damned thing was so small it swam right through my netting. haha.
Anyways, leave it to me to prove the success of natural reproduction in two of the lowest density systems in the lower peninsula. This body of water is really beautiful though and it's almost identical to fishing the upper chain. Wide slow river with cabbage lining every part of the shore. Both those dinks came from the exact same area which is interesting because I fished over 3 miles of river without turning anything else up.
