After catching a limit of the fatest browns I have ever seen by 9:30, I hooked on the boat and drove up to the chain… Fished from 3-9 on Sat. then 7-5 on Sunday. Caught 2 bucketmouths on a suick, and a 10" jake, both were 20+ and FAT, then 2 Smallies also around 20 and FAT (fat seemed to be a theme for the weekend come to think of it…especially at the pubs 😡 ) Then 4 walleyes in the 18-24 range, on cranks…. As for the Muskies, I had one on at boat side, looked 40-45, It hit a suick about 5' out from the boat and after 2-3 head shakes it popped off and I almost hit my buddy in the head witha rocketing lure! Then had one hit the wrong end of my live bait [smilie=attention.gif] and couldn't get a hook set into it, I tried pulling it away, and it just ticked it off…about a 36", then had one long distance hit on a hellhound, and just saw enough to tell it was the right species.
All in all a decent weekend, with I would have gotten the net wet, but considering the wind and the 46-48 degree water, I was pleased. One of the walleye was actually still actively spawning in 18 feet of water!

oh yeah, weeds were almost non existant except the decaying stuff on the bottom, and a few patches of pondweed or something here and there, which is where the smallies came from. Water was extremely high, and very tanic, but still had decent visibility of about 6-8 ft. and the wind was brutal.

I think your confused as to what year it is. Sounds like some great action. Is it common to catch so many off species while targetting muskies there? Sounds like fun.

Anytime you have a lot of walleye and big smallies/largemouths you have a good chance to hook one musky fishing.

Same thing up in canada during the summer. Always hooks a monster smallmouth on a double 10 or topwater or something.

Ha I just realized what you were talking about…no idea how/why I did that! maybe someone can move it???

Anyhow it was great action, the smallies came while trying for walleyes, on minnow raps. The bigger largemouth I caught I actually saw come from under the boat, in about 8' and hit on the figure 8…I got really excited when I saw a fish head coming up at a lure near boat side…then it hit on the first turn of the 8. I basically held it in the water for a minute hoping it would fight, but on the 8'6" sling blade it was pretty much like a bluegill on a cane pole.

the little south branch of the PM…couldn't even get in the river it was so high, but the silt had settled enough. I think I got enough crawlers out of their bellies to fish for waldo's for a month!
