Water Temps Approx. 60
First trip every to the Indian River area or any of these three lakes in the chain. My wife and I stayed at Onoway State park for two nights and as luck should have it we dodged all the rain down here over the weekend. The first night was short on time, we hit the south end, near the camp ground. We got into some descent walleye catching three and a few small perch on crawler harnesses in 11-13 ft of water out in front of the boat launch area. There were several LUND walleye guys at the campsite and it seemed that all of them did quite well on the south end of the lake.
Day 2: Slept off the the campfire "sippin" and headed to the north end of the upper black river launching there. Big water and inexperience equals a timely learning curve. We ended up fishing the main lake (even though I wanted to venture into the rivers of cheyboygan and lower black etc. this was not the trip for that. Had to keep it some what tolerable for the wife……We ended up finding some really nice areas on the NW side but it only gave us pike. No muskies seen….in the 3 to 4 hrs of actually trolling and casting. It was nice to get my feet wet up in this area, but need some more time to explore. Beautiful lake, area, and campground. Rounded off the trip bring her down to Bellaire and central lake, peeked my nose in at a couple launches on the chain and it was 90 degrees ….with idiots all over the water. No thanks, back to Short's to fill up my growlers with Anniversary Ale (high gravity goodness) it's seasonal and needs to be brought home by the half gallon. [smilie=2thumbsup.gif]
