Last light and we didn't see a fish all day. Nailed a fish on a bucktail with only a few casts left in the night but she got off right at boat side. Never got to see the fish but she felt really nice. Anyways, we go through our cussing routine and keep fishing completely dissapointed. 5 casts later I get this fish. Love it!

Does anyone else notice some sort of mucus around the gill area? I didn't think to look at it but I remember feeling something weird when I stuck my hand in the gills to pick the fish up.
Man I am good! The mucus is probably just the normal slime which protects the fish from disease. It can get pretty thick at times so I'm guessing that is what it was as the fish looks in perfect condition.
