Took a trip to Craig Lake with my dad and girlfriend for a 4 day weekend. Weather was horrible Thursday night and all day Friday with 45-60mph gusts and non stop rain but it cleared up Saturday and stayed nice thru Monday. Nights got down in the low-20s tho so it was real chilly in the tent.

Water level was so high from all the rain they have gotten in the past week up there. I would guess it was a good 4 or 5 feet deeper than I have ever seen it. The shoreline brush was submerged and all of the rocks out in the lake were under water which made it somewhat hard to find structure to fish.

Fishing was rather slow. Caught a couple decent pike and some decent smallmouth. Dad got a big smally and my girlfriend lost a real nice pike. Had one big muskie, mid 40s, follow to the boat and came out of the water on the top water bait but missed it completely and didnt come back again but we got a real good look at it. Water is so dark there that we didnt even see it coming and it scared the crap out of me and the gf, she even screamed out loud when it splashed.

Even tho the fishing was weak and the weather was cold, the trip was nice. Saw lots of wildlife and the fall colors were in full swing which made for some amazing scenery. Got some great pictures of loons and eagles.

Highlight of the trip was seeing/hearing 3 cow moose crossing the lake and then a bull moose coming across later following the calls of the cows since I think they were in heat and were making loud calls. I have never seen a moose before and I had no idea they cross lakes by walking along the bottom and coming up periodically for air making a loud splash sounding like a big rock was thrown into the water. Never seen anything like it before.

That is cool, never heard of that. I've seen a few moose in canada cross open water that just swam, but they where deeper lakes. Probably makes a difference.

I was reading about it and apparently they wade across shallower lakes like that walking along the bottom feeding on whatever growth there is on the bottom and coming up for air like that…wish it was during the day so I could have gotten a better look at them but there was a full moon and clear sky so luckily it was light enough to see fairly well, definitly a crazy sight to see

We stayed at Teddy Lake this summer and portaged Craig to Crooked. Caught a few nice sized Crappie and Smallmouth. That is definitely one of our favorite lakes and cabins to stay at. Nice job on the Muskie, I dont have the courage to fish Muskie from a Kayak!

Never seen them go under like that, would be cool to see. I have seen them cross water before, but just swimming.

We have seen them swim across the Montreal river but haven't ever seen them dive like that. Very neat! Earlier this year the water low enough to the point e couldn't kayak some of the areas we have in the past, glad to hear it's back up.
