Camped on and fished Craig Lake and Crooked Lake in Baraga County for a 3 day weekend.
– Water temp: 68-72
– Water clarity/color: less than 1 foot, dark iron stained
Weather was horrible, rained harder than I have ever seen it at one point which was bad for our leaking tent and the fishing was real slow but the scenery always makes up for it up there. First day fished Craig and caught 3 pike, a handful of smallmouth and a good eater walleye. Had one follow to the boat on a mepps #5 but would not strike. Went to Crooked for some crappie for dinner and got a boat load to keep us fed for the weekend.
Next day got a fat 9 lb pike about 34 inches on a 7" silver grandma on crooked. The fish wasnt all that long but his belly was bulging in several areas absolutely full of crappie. On craig later, my friend landed a fat 44 inch muskie on a silver believer just off the second island casting away from the island in about 12-15 feet of water. The fish hit right before a huge storm. Thunderstorm all evening prevented anymore fishing.
Monday got one monster pike, 40" on the dot on top water but that was the only fish we saw all day before I had to leave. Friends stayed there the whole week but I couldnt get more time off work. Im sure I will hear more about how they did next week.
