Fished from 2 ish to 830
Slow moving fish all day long, till the cloud cover came and went 2/2 on topwater. First time musky fishing by myself, and was nice getting a chance to practice netting by myself as well.
Didn't have a depthfinder or temp gauge, but the water still felt fairly cool at the surface. Need to install depthfinder now that my boat is done, but the 2nd fish on topwater came in 25 ft of open water.
I just got my outboard out of retirement and could now fish Murray Lake and Hamlin Lake, both are the same milage. However I'm so tied up with grants and fishery projects that eat up my time and gas money. That tradeoff is my fault. This week We're harvesting walleye from the Ludington pond so I may sneak over to Hamlin Lake. My truck tailgate operation is good for most any roadend access and limited parking. A 12' aluminum and 50# minnkota is a blast for highline steelhead every fall until iceup. The same plan could highline muskie with topwater baits.
I was on the English River in NWT Ontario in 1994 and was drunk trolling a hell raiser cherry twist in about 40' but close to the break. A big fish smoked the bait and I fought it very briefly before it coming off. Not sure if it was a muskie or a pike but it was very large and I am leaning towards muskie. Should have had one or two fewer that day I guess!! Great memories though!!
