Fished with Tim D. about all day, water 48-49ish and visibility seemed to be improving from recent reports, looked like more than 5 feet. Nice weeds left in spots, interesting day with clouds and 3-4 separate rain showers, but some sun too, with winds dead calm to a decent chop. The frequently changing conditions seemed to get fish moving and we had good opportunity, with two decent fish coming to the net and some misses (Tim led the actual catching, I led the misses). A big girl flirted with us on two separate visits, almost got that taunting biotch to go the second time. All in all a fun and interesting day, lucky to have such nice weather this late in the year.

Nice job, guys. So what is considered "decent"? [smilie=brows.gif] Tim, that's only about your 2nd time to Murray, isn't it?

Jim, they were smaller average fish, 37" and 41". I've only fished Murray a hand full of times. Why?

Sounds like an interesting forum topic. What is small, what is decent, what is nice, what is big, what is really big, what is "once in a lifetime".

could be an interesting topic. I would think those terms are more based on the lake being fished.

I wanted to go yesterday, but had to get some work done. Hopefully get out there this wkend.

Good job boating some fish guys! I went out after work yesterday at Austin but forgot a rain jacket and in 10 minutes was soaked, then 10 minutes later I was freezing cold, then 10 minutes after that I was heading home. I get home and it completely stops for the rest the night. A complete waste of a trip for me.

I'd have to agree the size relate to the lake, but generally for the small inland lakes, at least those I fish (Thorn, Ovid, Murray, Austin, L. Crooked, Long and Osterhout), in my often futile experience it seems to be roughly:

Small – less than 36
Decent – 36 to 42
Large – 42 to 45
Real pigs – 45 to 48
Trophy replica eligible – Over 48

I haven't yet got the replica eligible biotch on these lakes, but Kid and I are dragging Thorn with huge nets between our two boats at next year's Bruce, and we just might get one of those.

 Hah! [smilie=applause.gif]

More likely you'll get a net full of suckers and gar. I think those're are packed in like nightcrawlers in a coffee can in that lake… [smilie=biggrin.gif]

Good job on Murray, guys.
