Fished a little hole on the Grand a little west of Lansing yesterday with my uncle for about 4 hours before the football games started. Set some tip ups and cut a big hole for the shanty to jig in and set a line down to watch using Smada's double minnow idea (great idea by the way, Thanks!)
Nothin on the tip ups and saw a couple suckers and a huge carp in the hole that musta been 30 pounts but no pike till the last hour out there and a big bodied pike slid in real slow on the double minnow. Real heavy fish too, best pike I've ever got thru the ice. Measured 32 inches on the dot. Cool that he went for the line in the shanty cause we got to watch him come in all stealthy and stare at the double minnow for a good while, probably tryin to figure out what they were doin.
Apparently my uncle was at the same spot the day before with his friend and said they saw a real dark colored fish slide by the hole that was like 5 feet long. Not sure how accurate their estimate was but they figured it was either a sturgeon or a big flathead catfish. It wasnt too concerned with their bait though. Said they also saw a decent walleye and a big largemouth. I think you could see just about anything in that river.
