7 am -12pm

water: calm and clear.

temps started at 77.5 and hit 79.8 so we called it a day. All the action was on topwater 1 for 5.

The fish that hit the net was a 23.5 incher. I am guessing a mature fish that had its back broken, was marred by an old wound looked like a round hole. Fin clipped, will send it in.

Good call to try Austin, it heats fast but also cools fast, as several of us have mentioned here before. I fished a deep clear pike lake last weekend and 81 at the surface gave me hope that muskie fishing might resume soon, then mid-week an average depth clear pike lake was 83-84 so I didn't try muskies again yet with things staying warm to hot outside (and this coming week looks the same). Strange year, high water flooding Thorn several times, then very hot weather keeping my area muskie lakes like Thorn way too warm, then a huge oil spill in a favorite pike river…but I'm revisiting old pike haunts and having a decent time before things improve. Let's hope we don't have to wait all the way until September for decent muskie conditions!

This kalamazoo river thing is bad news. We fished it just a day before the spill, 6 pike, lots of bass, a few big marks right in front of the spillway. I have a feeling we wont be fishing there anytime soon. I have a pic on my phone, when i get to a computer I will try post it….its a crappy pic, but as Jim can attest, I am photo challenged. Austin does heat very fast, within 1 hour I watched the temp jump a couple of degrees.

Hey Bill- I'm sure you did, but be sure to let the DNR folks know that this fish that is not even legal for a pike is a spearing survivor…

Thats interesting! Too bad it was in rough shape, but you never know, we can all hope it was a product of reproduction. Please let us know if hear anything.

It is horrible. I loved fishing Morrow Pond. Without question my most productive smallmouth lake in SW MI. Also has been a great pike lake for me over the years. We actually ice fished it a few times last year and had a blast, well, except for the long walk to the dam through 1.5ft of snow.
