I was at Webster yesterday and the water temp was 44 degrees first thing in the morning and it was 46 when we left. Visibility was about 1-2 foot and the water is pretty dark. We did not see one fish caught and there were about (10) guys that looked like they were muskie fishing including a couple of the local guides. I talked to a local guide, Bill Bennet, and he said he is throwing very small baits and the fishing is tough. We had (1) follow all day and actually saw fish jumping all day (wasn't sure but I would guess they were bass and it was strange behavior).
Lots of floating trees and pieces of peoples docks in the lake so be careful how fast you run. At the launch some guys heard the lake was no wake to protect peoples homes but there was no sign and people were running full out.
I threw mantas, tubes, rattletraps, spinnerbaits (slow rolled nut busters on the bottom),small cranks, small bucktails, junior DCG's, Xrap and my only follow was on a brightly colored Mepps #6 musky killer. The few guides I saw were throwing very small cranks (4"-6") crankbaits up into the shallows. The folks at Ye Olde Tackle shop said they heard the fish were up in the shallows but we never saw them and the shop had 6"-8" suckers (I know we can't use them in the tournament). I guessed that the tunnel into the lake was about 5' from the water surface to the top and I heard the water levels were dropping. Should be interesting on Saturday!
