We were up for the 5th annually muskie tournement with high school friends. We finally got one in the boat, unfortunately I had to do the netting. It was the first live spotted I have seen, and damn they are sweet. Had a few other follows between the hurricane force winds. Temps ranged from 53-59. Weeds were still low and just starting compared to the last few years.
We finally made it up there in the fall. The best action was when a Herron attacked my topwater. Fished Skeg, Torch, and inter chain this weekend. Lots of bass guys out. Had one follow on skeg but that was it. We pounded the water pretty hard and starting to find some points of structure. Unfortunately smarts has not lead to fish yet for me up there.
Are there going to be more boats on the water from time to time? Yes…probably, but I really don't think its gonna get that bad. Lets not forget that there has always been LARGE fish in this system, this wasnt the first state record, and it won't be the last. If more people want to travel To TC and bang their heads in the abyss of torch and elk trolling, be my guest. Things need to be preserved and protected in this delicate / rare system further (spearing // trophy size limits, no take), but a little bit of pressure by some muskie nutz shouldnt cahnge things over the next few years. Lets just hope the winter crowds don't increase 🙄
In the two and half days of fishing we did not see anyone else muskie fishing. Lots of bass fisherman on Skeg & elk but that was about it. We have been up there in the spring for a weekend each spring for 5 years now and a few fall trips and have only ran into a handful of muskie guys 3-4 at most. Its not over swamped. Like Adam said my fear would be an increase in ice fishing.
