Water is back down to near-normal levels. Temp was 72-73° on 6/30, down from 85° the week before, and was further down to 68-69° on 7/3. Water was muddy in most places, with 3' or less of visibility.
Milfoil is receeding again in the deeper beds, like the ones SE of the dam, and around "The Point". The amount of emergent weeds is noticeably reduced, and I pulled op LOTS of very pale green, unhealthy-looking milfoil. It's hard to see the weed edges with the muddy water and dying weeds. Lots of clouds didn't help visibility much, either.
Winds were light to moderate from the NNW to NW on both days.
Fished for about 20 hrs combined and didn't see a fish. I'm so lame.
We all have those long slumps and credit to you for writing of them when most of us just choose not to mention it! It will pay off in the long run with all the learning and perseverence. I chase pike to help ease the pain of muskie slumps, had a ball on a creek yesterday – it was as nature intended, every likely lair seemed to have at least one and they hit with fury! I highly recommend it, get a kayak and fight back into the untouched waters, it's a blast and you'll forget muskie a while for sure!
Thanks, guys. There's some comfort to be had knowing that these wild temp swings (from the 90s to the 60s) and the weeds crashing in Ovid (again!) are putting the fish in places I haven't figured out yet, but it sure is frustrating I can't even make SLIGHT contact!
